by crazy2try inwell, it has been a long time since i have checked in.
i have been fading from my congergation for awhile now.
my husband was having issues with it all, but i am proud to say he has completely backed me up and now has jumped ahead and completely changed his thinking on attending meetings and raising our children within the org.

A thought about the "imperfect men" excuse for false teachings.
by WontLeave inin researching and writing this, a thought occurred to me.... has anyone ever asked this: if the society is "the faithful and discreet slave" of mat 24, they have been given authority over all of christ's belongings (including the people), are spirit-led and god's sole means of communication, and are entrusted with revealing "food at the proper time", why are they held to a lower standard than the "other sheep"?.
if they blatantly violate scripture, if they make false prophecies, if they reverse their decisions repeatedly, if they go way beyond what is written, if they hold a position for years or decades which is obviously and finally admitted to be false, they are given a total pass as "imperfect men" and "not infallible".
meanwhile, if you or i have a belief jws feel is "wrong" - we're not spirit-directed mouthpieces of god - why are we "apostates"?

Crisis of Conscience
Wontleave, great thread! Excellent points!
While I have tried to explain my feelings to some JW's, they always use that silly line. My thing is, I served at Bethel, and there I saw that the GB set the bar very high for themselves! So why would I look at their actions and dismiss them so easily, as if it's alright just because they are imperfect? They put themselves on that pedestal! And that is where they will be judged, at least in my eyes, not any lower.
@ DesirousOfChange
This is exactly what I have thought about after looking at Jesus example. When did he tell his apostles/disciples, "You're outta here! Don't talk to me for at least 6 months!"?
NEVER! And yet JW's claim to follow the example of Christ. Right. So he put into motion the silly DFing "loving arrangement". WHATEVA!!

Crisis of Conscience
Wow. I'm just reading this letter for the 2nd time and point 4 really got me thinking. 4. We are taught as an organization that the light gets brighter as Jehovah blesses his servants with Holy Spirit and increased understanding. Is Jehovah responsible for flip flopping doctrines such as the generation of Matt. 24:34, organ transplants, Blood transfusions, the superior authorities etc. or is it men who claim to be inspired? Despite these changes each time credit/blame is given to Jehovah. If the Faithful and Discreet slave were actually inspired, faithful, or discreet, these teachings would have never changed. I never quite thought about it that way. It's always new light and the FDS always says their understanding has changed (again). It's implied at that moment of new light that it was their fault for the mistake in understanding. But SIAM is right. Every bit of new light is always introduced as Jehovah giving them understanding, coming from him and his holy spirit. So who messed up? CoC

Examples of Rhetorical Fallacy in the Watchtower
by leavingwt infrom the excellent website, jw facts, here are a few examples of rhetorical fallacies within the watchtower.
red herringa red herring is the introduction of irrelevant material into a discussion to divert attention away from the points being made.a common witness retort to a difficult question is "where else would we go?
" this is a red herring as it diverts attention from answering the issue at hand.
